New program protects teenage athletes from sexual abuse

Share

According to the U.S. Department of Justice, one in four girls and one in six boys will be sexually abused before the age of 18. Adolescents in their teen years are especially vulnerable to sexual abuse. That is why Traverse Bay Children’s Advocacy Center (TBCAC) introduced a new program to keep teenage athletes safe from abuse.

With a $10,000 grant from Children’s Foundation, TBCAC implemented the Safe Teens program to connect middle school and high school coaches, parents, and young athletes to teach every one the information and skills they need to know to protect the young athletes.

TBCAC works to keep children safe by providing preventative education to the community, as well as provides support and healing to children who have been harmed.

“On behalf of everyone at Traverse Bay Children’s Advocacy Center,-thank you to Children’s Foundation for reaching out to us and extending your goodness to the Northern Michigan community to help keep our children safe,” said Susan Bolde, Executive Director at Traverse Bay Children’s Advocacy Center.
