A letter from Larry – November 2022

Hello, and welcome to November.

To many, November marks the beginning of the holiday season. With Thanksgiving only a few weeks away I know many people are already dreaming of their turkey, gravy, and stuffing.

November happens to be another important month for the Children’s Foundation and our affiliates.

We are extremely excited that the Adolescent Addiction Recovery Center (AARC) is now open at Children’s Hospital of Michigan Troy. The Children’s Foundation is providing philanthropic support for all operations of this very important initiative helping youngsters recover from addiction.

A special shout out to some of our major donors that have made the AARC possible including the George Ginopolis Endowment, Jamie Daniels Foundation, Delta Dental, Marilyn Bartley, and many others.

We’re also getting ready for some activities that take place in the not-too-distant future including the Jamie Daniels Foundation’s Hot Stove Stories with Mickey & Ken at Motor City Casino on December 1. They’ll be talking about all the inside scoop of hockey with featured guests including former Red Wing stars Chris Osgood and Kris Draper, NHL referee Wes McCauley, and former NHL referee Dan O’Halloran.  For all hockey fans, this is a must.

We also are getting ready for the 38th Annual Festival of Trees. This festive event raises money for Children’s Hospital of Michigan and world-class pediatric research. The Festival of Trees has created the largest endowment The Foundation holds due to their ongoing decades of success. Thank you to all the volunteers of Festival of Trees who make this event memorable, year after year.

I also want to welcome the incoming President & CEO of The Children’s Foundation Mr. Andrew Stein. Andrew has started his journey with The Foundation and will work with me side-by-side throughout the rest of this calendar year. Andrew comes to us from City Year Detroit where he served as the executive director the last seven years.

Welcome Andrew to this wonderful organization. I know that you will provide the leadership and guidance for The Children’s Foundation to take the next important steps in our evolution as the leading children’s foundation in Michigan and beyond.

Well, that’s an awful lot of information. I thank you for your support and I wish everyone a happy, safe, and healthy Thanksgiving.

Onward!

Lawrence J. Burns
