Focus Areas

SUBSTANCE USE DISORDER
Youth substance use is a significant public health issue, often going untreated. Factors like stress, genetics, isolation, and lack of school connection can increase the risk. Prevention and recovery support are key to helping young people make healthy choices. Our young people need to be free from stigma, with access to immediate resources and long-term solutions.

MENTAL HEALTH
Mental health is essential to a child’s overall health and well-being. Without support and resources, mental health concerns can impact children’s lives, preventing them from realizing the healthy futures they deserve. As the demand for services and solutions continues to rise, so does the number of children going without the care they need—nearly two-thirds of those with a diagnosable mental health condition receive little or no help. Children need access to innovative programs that reduce stigma, eliminate financial and access barriers, and equip them with the tools to cope, navigate, and thrive.

HEALTH EQUITY & ACCESS
Health equity means everyone has a fair chance to achieve their best health, with access to timely, quality care, regardless of their situation or background. We are dedicated to ensuring that all of Michigan’s children have this opportunity, recognizing that the path to this goal will look different for different children, families, and communities. Advancing health equity means addressing the Social Determinants of Health, reducing avoidable inequalities, and tailoring services and programs to meet the needs of individuals and communities.

CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL OF MICHIGAN LEGACY INITIATIVES
As stewards of philanthropic legacy from Children’s Hospital of Michigan for more than 130 years, the Foundation continues to honor donor intent of existing funds and raise funds in support of research and wellness programs that without philanthropy would not exist. CHM plays a vital role in our community, serving as a safety net hospital, providing essential care and support to those in need, while also treating children requiring specialized care.
