Welcome to July!
Now that summer is well underway, I wanted to update you with several Children’s Foundation activities.
For the third year, we had a very successful partnership once again with the Rocket Mortgage Classic. Returning from 2019 was our sponsorship of the Youth Golf Clinic on the Monday of tournament week where professionals provided tips and a Q&A for young golfers. It was especially rewarding since our kids from First Tee-Greater Detroit there for the first time as affiliate members of our Children’s Foundation.
We also had the opportunity for PGA professionals to provide a putting lesson for First Tee-Greater Detroit members. Special thanks to Brendon Todd and Webb Simpson for sharing their time and expertise. Webb Simpson was wonderful – you can tell he’s a grateful father of five children of his own. The kids loved him.
Then on Tuesday we had our Children’s Foundation team in the 313 Celebrity Scramble. Our Trustee, Lorron James, represented The Foundation along with Michigan State’s Tom Izzo and PGA Champion Phil Mickelson. A great time was had by all!
And then, unexpectedly, Phil and Amy Mickelson made a generous contribution of $100,000 to our foundation. What a great way to complete our partnership for this year.
Now we are getting ready for the Paul W. Smith Golf Classic on August 2. This annual event is in its 18th year and supports Variety Detroit, Detroit PAL, The Children’s Center and of course The Children’s Foundation.
We also will be hosting in the inaugural Ben Hogan Championship of Michigan on August 9 with all proceeds going to our First Tee-Greater Detroit.
