Welcome to August. As the old saying goes, these are the dog days of summer.
The Foundation has had a very busy summer so far with a number of special events and fundraising activities taking place.
I want to give a real shout out to our Leaders for Kids group who have started the Summer Recess series at local restaurants raising funds for mental health programs at our great partner, Children’s Hospital of Michigan. There’s a few more of these events yet this summer that you can attend and you can find updates on social media about them.
The 18th Annual Paul W. Smith Golf Classic recently was held and I am delighted to announce that it was a tremendous success. The event raised $455,689 for four worthy nonprofits including The Children’s Center, Detroit PAL, Variety Detroit and The Children’s Foundation. Thank you to Paul W. and his wonderful wife Kim for all of their tremendous work on this outing and throughout the year as they help support children in our community – more than 55,000 kids are impacted by their efforts, annually!
Coming up very soon is the Motor City Car Crawl Charity Gala for the Detroit Auto Dealers Association featuring the rock legend Sheryl Crow. The Children’s Foundation is honored to continue to be a partner with the DADA and one of the grateful charity recipients benefiting from this event. I will continue to keep you posted on many of our activities and also provide updates on the official reopening of The Children’s Foundation offices in the Fisher Building. At the present time we continue to work remotely but are having more and more in person activities and meetings. I certainly hope this continues in our future.
