A letter from Larry – August 2022

Larry and The Children’s Foundation’s Champ at Rocket Mortgage Classic in July

Hello and welcome to August.

Well, as I mentioned last month things are very busy this summer for The Children’s Foundation and our affiliates. It’s a great time of year!

The 19th Annual Paul W. Smith Golf Classic was a roaring success. The weather was ideal, everyone was in a festive mood, and we raised a net of $480,000 which will support four wonderful partners. They are, Detroit PAL, Variety Detroit, The Children’s Center and of course our very own Children’s Foundation.  Plans are already underway for the 20th Annual Paul W. Smith Golf Classic next summer.

The Leaders For Kids Board were able to bring back their in-person event known as Summer Recess.  This midsummer event was truly an incredible success, held at the M1 Concourse in Pontiac. The evening was full of great food provided by our wonderful partner Chef Bobby, folks were dressed to the nines and most importantly, the event raised more than $100,000 for Child Life Services at Children’s Hospital of Michigan and also for the Leaders For Kids endowment within The Children’s Foundation. Well done, young leaders!

Near the end of the month, we were extremely involved in the Rocket Mortgage Classic at the Detroit Golf Club. The Children’s Foundation sponsored the Youth Golf Clinic, which was the best ever and we had an opportunity to showcase our affiliate, First Tee-Greater Detroit (FTGD).

As a result of our collaborative participation in Rocket Mortgage Classic, CDW provided us with a generous gift which enabled the purchase of a golf simulator currently set-up at Durfee Innovation Society, part of our wonderful partner, Life Remodeled. This will allow FTGD to engage participants in golf programming throughout the entire year. Stay tuned for more information on the outcomes and generosity of the Rocket Mortgage Classic in the coming months.

Looking ahead, we’re gearing up for the second annual Ben Hogan Championship of Michigan which will take place at Country Club of Detroit. This event benefits First Tee-Greater Detroit and it includes a lovely cocktail party on Sunday, August 21 followed by a great day of golf on Monday, August 22. Sponsorship opportunities are still available if you’re interested. Simply contact Interim-CEO of FTGD, Todd Krieger at [email protected].

That’s our recap of July and an early start in August. As you can see, we are on the move, and appreciative of all your support and generosity.

Enjoy the great weather. Onward!

Onward!
