Get to know: Cynthia Ford, Vice Chair, Board of Trustees

Cynthia Ford serves as Vice Chair of the Children’s Foundation Board of Trustees, and has served as a Trustee of the Children’s Hospital of Michigan Foundation since its inception in 2004. Cynthia’s relationship with the Foundation began when a long-time Children’s Hospital Trustee, and close friend of Cynthia’s, asked her to join the Board, sparking more than two decades of steadfast involvement with the hospital and The Foundation. Cynthia’s passion for children radiates through her charitable work and myriad of community commitments.

What does it mean to you to be a Trustee at Children’s Foundation?

Inherent in being a Trustee at Children’s Foundation is to perpetuate the intentions of those who thoughtfully and purposefully founded The Foundation. The Foundation has evolved over the years to focus on ever increasing numbers of children’s health issues as they continue to be identified. I am very proud of the work The Foundation is doing presently, providing basic needs care to the children of our region during this very challenging time.

If you could invite any three people to dinner (dead or alive), who would it be?

I would be most interested in inviting Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Ernest Hemingway and Brian Williams to dinner and just listen to them talk among themselves.

Where is your favorite place to travel?

Yellowstone National Park in the middle of winter is one of my favorite destinations. It is beautiful and serene. Bison sightings are plentiful, with the occasional wolf appearing. Without the crowds there is so much to see and appreciate.

What do you miss the most about life pre-pandemic?

As I imagine do most people, I miss being with friends and colleagues. I miss the freedom of the pre-pandemic world, living without the fear of contracting or spreading the virus.
